CVPSD Appoints Dr. Bridget Truitt to Advisory Board

Freehold, NJ | September 8, 2026 | The Center for Violence Prevention and Self Defense (CVPSD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Bridget Truitt, Ph.D., Neuroscience, to its Advisory Board.
Dr. Truitt brings extensive academic and research experience in neuroscience, stress, fear, behavior, and neurological processes. She earned her doctorate in neuroscience from Miami University in 2024, where her doctoral research examined The Effects of the Microbiome on Morphine Withdrawal. Her research experience includes work with the University of Miami, Westminster College, and Penn State Behrend, including research involving behavioral responses to stress, fear conditioning, neural communication, and behavioral data analysis.
As a member of the CVPSD Advisory Board, Dr. Truitt will contribute her scientific expertise to the organization's ongoing efforts to better understand the behavioral and physiological factors associated with conflict, aggression, stress, and violence. Her background will support CVPSD's development of evidence-informed education and training designed to help individuals recognize risk earlier, respond effectively to challenging behavior, and improve personal and community safety.
"Understanding violence prevention requires more than knowing what to do during a crisis. It requires understanding the biological, psychological, and behavioral processes that can contribute to escalation," said CVPSD Director Will DeMuth. "Dr. Truitt's neuroscience background adds an important scientific perspective to our multidisciplinary approach to violence prevention and self-defense."
Dr. Truitt will also support CVPSD educational initiatives addressing early recognition of escalating behavior, stress responses, de-escalation, behavioral awareness, and safety strategies for staff and students. Her expertise will help strengthen the connection between neuroscience research and practical violence prevention education.
