CVPSD Adds Handgun Disarm Training to Curriculum
Freehold, NJ — August 3, 2025 — The Center for Violence Prevention and Self Defense (CVPSD), a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with practical self-defense and violence prevention skills, is proud to announce the addition of a Handgun Disarm Training course to its curriculum.
This new course is designed to teach civilians, professionals, and first responders how to recognize, respond to, and survive handgun threats in real-world scenarios. Led by CVPSD’s experienced instructors, the training emphasizes situational awareness, psychological preparedness, and safe, effective handgun disarm techniques.
“There is no such thing as a safe handgun defense,” said Shawn Lebrock, Director of CVPSD. “But doing nothing is not a strategy. This course gives people a chance—through training, not fantasy.”

What the Handgun Disarm Defensive Tactics Course Covers:
Threat recognition and de-escalation techniques
Common handgun assault scenarios and angles of attack
Close-quarters control and redirection techniques
Disarm mechanics based on biomechanics and leverage
Legal and ethical considerations surrounding deadly force encounters
Drills with inert training weapons under instructor supervision
The Handgun Disarm Training is offered as a standalone intensive workshop and will also be integrated into select advanced self-defense modules for groups seeking more comprehensive training.
CVPSD remains committed to responsible training and risk reduction. All techniques are taught in a controlled, safety-focused environment using non-functioning replica firearms.
