CVPSD to Provide Interactive Violence Prevention and Self-Defense Training for the New Jersey Association on Correction
Freehold, NJ | September 23, 2026 - The Center for Violence Prevention and Self Defense (CVPSD) will provide specialized violence prevention and self-defense training for the New Jersey Association on Correction (NJAC), delivering a hands-on, interactive workshop focused on emotional intelligence, situational awareness, de-escalation, and practical personal safety skills.
Designed to be engaging, inclusive, and applicable to real-world situations, the workshop will equip participants with practical strategies to recognize potential threats, manage challenging interactions, and respond more effectively under stress.

The training emphasizes the importance of recognizing and addressing situations before they escalate, combining behavioral awareness, emotional regulation, verbal de-escalation, boundary-setting, and physical disengagement techniques.
Training Focus: Prevention, Awareness, and Response
The workshop will cover a comprehensive range of violence prevention and personal safety topics, including:
Emotional Intelligence and Violence Prevention: Managing fear and anger, improving emotional regulation, and performing more effectively under stress.
Verbal De-escalation and Conflict Management: Understanding when and how to use verbal de-escalation, deterrence, disengagement, and detachment.
Boundaries and Protective Communication: Setting and reinforcing boundaries while developing protective, congruent body language.
Situational Awareness and Threat Recognition: Identifying potential threats, recognizing pre-attack indicators, and managing unknown contacts (MUC).
Mindset and Personal Safety: Developing a practical, prevention-oriented mindset for responding to challenging and potentially dangerous situations.
Physical Disengagement: Learning basic techniques designed to help participants create distance and disengage from unwanted physical contact.
Substance Abuse Awareness: Recognizing potential indicators of substance impairment and understanding appropriate safety protocols.
A Trauma-Informed and Inclusive Approach
CVPSD training sessions are trauma-informed and tailored to the classroom environment, prioritizing participant safety, comfort, and accessibility for individuals of all abilities.
Through interactive instruction and practical application, the workshop is designed to help participants build confidence, strengthen their decision-making under pressure, and develop skills that can be applied in professional and everyday environments.
CVPSD's approach recognizes that violence prevention involves more than physical techniques. Effective personal safety requires the ability to assess behavior, regulate emotional responses, communicate clearly, establish boundaries, and make informed decisions as situations evolve.
