A seemingly unprovoked attack has left Arizona State University student Mara Daffron, 19, recovering from surgery after being stabbed twice in a Glendale classroom on September 19th.
Daffron was entering class when fellow student Kaci Sloan allegedly lunged at her with a knife, inflicting injuries to her tricep and spleen. According to police reports, Sloan admitted to planning the attack and targeting Daffron because she perceived her as an "easier" victim.
Another student, Matthew McCormick, bravely intervened, preventing further harm to Daffron. "I saw her being attacked and knew I had to act," McCormick stated. "Thankfully, everyone in the room responded quickly and effectively, including the EMTs and police."
Daffron underwent surgery for her injuries and is now recovering at home, though her mother reports she is still in significant pain. The family is understandably shaken by the incident.
Sloan faces charges including first-degree attempted murder.
